Albert Oehlen
Albert Oehlen’s (*1954, Krefeld) oeuvre is highly interdisciplinarily oriented, the artist is most commonly known for his humorous painterly works, which are closely associated with the “Neue Wilde” movement of the 1980s. Constantly questioning the methods and means of painting as well as the hierarchical structures that these methods imply, he combines abstract and figurative elements, calling them essentially “post-non-representational”.
Oehlen studied at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Hamburg under Prof. Sigmar Polke. From 2000-2009 he held a professorship for painting at the Kunstakademie, Düsseldorf.
